Colegau AB

Mae pob un o'r 19 coleg a sefydliad addysg bellach (AB) yng Nghymru yn aelodau o GolegauCymru.

Gellir disgrifio 13 o'r colegau fel colegau addysg bellach cyffredinol. Mae dau o'r rhain yn rhan-drydyddol ac mae un wedi ei uno â Phrifysgol Morgannwg. Mae pum coleg yn drydyddol, un yn goleg chweched dosbarth Catholig, ac un yn goleg preswyl i oedolion. Mae dau - Coleg Gymunedol YMCA a Sefydliad Addysg Y Gweithwyr (De Cymru) - yn sefydliadau addysg bellach.

Trwy'r wefan hon, defnyddir y termau 'coleg' a 'choleg AB' i gwmpasu pob math o goleg a sefydliad AB.

Cymwysterau

The largest colleges offer over 1,000 different qualifications across a wide range of levels of difficulty. Colleges make an important contribution to tackling social exclusion. In a single building, a college may have students with special educational needs sharing facilities with those taking academic and vocational courses from Entry Level through to Level 3 (e.g. ‘A’ levels) or higher education levels (e.g. honours degrees).

Llywodraethu

Before 1993, colleges were under the control of local government. The Further and Higher Education (FHE) Act 1992 took colleges out of local authority control and established colleges as incorporated bodies, each with a governing body that determines the educational character and mission of the college and ensures its overall well-being and financial solvency. The membership of governing bodies reflects the college’s stakeholders and is a powerful means through which the college is accountable to its local community. The membership is made up of people from business, local education authorities and the local community as well as staff and students. One third of the members must come from local business, and between 1 and 3 from each of the other categories.

  • Coleg Llandrillo Cymru wedi ymgorffori Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor (Ebr2010)
  • Coleg Glannau Dyfrdwy wedi ymgorffori Coleg Garddwriaeth Cymru (Awst2009) a Choleg Llysfasi (Gorff2010)
  • Coleg Abertawe a Choleg Gorseinon wedi uno i greu coleg newydd, Coleg Gŵyr Abertawe (Awst2010)
  • Coleg y Barri a Choleg Glan Hafren wedi uno i greu coleg newydd, Coleg Caerdydd a'r Fro (Awst 2011)
  • Coleg Harlech/Sefydliad Addysg y Gweithwyr(Gogledd) a Sefydliad Addysg y Gweithwyr(De) i uno yn 2012 

Mae nifer o sefydliadau hyfforddi seiliedig-ar-waith a sefydliadau addysg uwch hefyd yn cymryd rhan mewn adgyfluniadau gyda cholegau addysg bellach.
