CollegesWales e-news.
To make up for the lack of enews last week, TWO editions are published this week. This is a very busy and exciting period with lots of strategic devleopments and special events, including the incredible global skills competition, WorldSkills, which is in the UK 5-8 October.
In addition to this edition of enews, a special edition celebrating Wales' participating in WorldSkills is published this week.

Getting to grips with the curriculum
ColegauCymru has responded to the announcement by the Deputy Minister for Skills of a Review of Qualifications for 14-19 year olds in Wales by organising a conference on qualifications on 2 February 2012 to feed into the consultation process. More >>>
International partnership project promotes employment preparation
Pembrokeshire College, Sharjah Institute of Technology (United Arab Emirates) and Coleg Gwent have launched the PSG International Consortium. The key objective is to provide high-level, vocational training to prepare students for the job market in the private and government sectors. All three colleges are training students for the oil, gas and energy industries and the associated supply chain of construction engineering businesses as well as tourism and hospitality. more>>>
Cardiff Foundation Award in Art & Design
Bridgend College is delighted to announce that from September 2012 the ‘Cardiff Foundation Award in Art & Design’ currently delivered by the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, will be delivered by Bridgend College at a new central location in Cardiff close to the Cardiff School of Art & Design current campus. more>>>
Sporty Birthday Treat
Neath Port Talbot College (NPTC) kicked off its 80th birthday celebrations at its brand new £6M state-of-the-art sports facility today with the help of the high flying Swans. The sports facility includes a multi-functional national standard hard court sports hall and climbing wall together with classrooms and changing facilities along with an indoor bounding track, an outside Multi Use Games Area and an IRB standard 3G artificial outdoor pitch. more>>>

Smooth Operators
The Plastering Department at Neath Port Talbot College (NPTC) is once again celebrating further success of its fantastic performance. As a result of the outstanding results delivered by the Plastering Department at NPTC, the college has been awarded the College Regional Award for Wales 2011 at The Plaisterers’ Training Awards 2011 as well as runner-up in the Sir Thomas Kelly Cup for 2011, an award that considers all Plastering Colleges in England, Northern Ireland and Wales. more>>>

Leading the way in outdoor adventure
Sport & Outdoor Activities students from Coleg Gwent have ventured into the wild to see how they fared as expedition leaders as part of their assessment for the Basic Expedition Leader Award qualification. more>>>
Animal rescue
Fire fighters need certain specialist skills, such as the rescue of large farm animals in emergency situations, not covered in their rigorous training. That’s where Coleg Gwent steps in. The college has a farm on its Usk Campus and the farm manager is also a retained fire fighter. This was the location where fire fighters from South Wales Fire & Rescue Service recently got to practice animal rescue and learn about animal behaviour from a vet. more>>>
Construction students deliver and install new design
The latest phase of the Conwy County Borough Council Environment Department/Coleg Llandrillo Cymru work experience initiative has seen construction students design and install a new ornamental gate for Conwy County Borough Council at Bodlondeb. The initiative provides real life work experience opportunities and add community value through the refurbishment of community facilities in the area. more>>>

Coleg Llandrillo Cymru construction students studying for a Building Craft Foundation qualification have just completed their most ambitious project to date, having completed the construction of a traditional house, including the roof, walls, all interior rooms and a porch after only nine months’ training. more>>>

A group of Coleg Menai creative arts students spent a weekend at the Eurogamer Expo in London recently with Coleg Menai's Games Development Programme Leader Steve Gorst and filmed for a gadget show programme for S4C. more>>>
