Daniel Biggs, an engineering apprentice who studies at Yale College, has been crowned JCB Apprentice of the Year 2011 at the company’s recent “Global Awards” ceremony. more>>>
From Apprentice to Major Site Developer
Edwin Wild (27) started his career as a Bricklaying Apprentice at the Deeside College Group of Colleges. He returned within 10 years - as the Site Manager of a major development at one of the college sites. more>>>

Money Management: a skill that’s on its way to Wales’ young people
What do these have in common... a credit union officer, a council’s debt and benefit advisor, an ex-offenders’ support worker, a trading standards’ consumer education officer, plus work-based learning providers and colleges’ learner services departments? They are all very keenly aware that many young people need better money management skills to help them through life and enable them to reach their potential. The answer, in part, is ‘Teach Others’. more>>>

In the middle of a cookery lesson, Coleg Sir Gâr lecturer Moreen Howells was surprised to be interrupted by a TV camera crew and S4C's Wedi 3 presenter Alwyn Hughes, who presented her with the Halen Y Ddaear award (Salt of the Earth Award) for her commitment to students. more>>>

Thanks to research carried out by Neath Port Talbot College’s Senior Lecturer in Horticulture Bob Priddle and students, the first Green Plaque - which acknowledges the work of famous gardeners and garden designers – has been unveiled at the Roof Gardens in Kensington, London and acknowledges the work of Cardiff-born garden designer Ralph Hancock. more>>>

A student in his final year of a sports coaching degree at Coleg Sir Gâr’s Graig campus, has been shortlisted for the LV= Breakthrough Player award. more>>>

Gower College Swansea student Rhodri Hughes has been selected for Wales U20 in the first fixture of the U20 Six Nations Championships. more>>>

Coleg Sir Gâr sports diploma students and sports academy players Jake Randall from Llandovery, and Iolo Evans from Llanelli, have been called-up to play for the U20s Welsh rugby squad in the Six Nations. more>>>

Art and design learners at Yale College have put their vocational skills into practice, developing and selling hand printed seed packets and tea towels in order to raise awareness of the plight of the honey bee whilst providing individual popular gifts and raising money for an international charity. more>>>
Top chef’s lesson in cuisine
Catering and hospitality students in Carmarthen began the new year working with the head chef of Llanelli’s new Sosban restaurant, Sian Rees - a former student of the college who has worked for some of the UK’s Michelin starred and high-end restaurants including Claridge’s, L’Esgargot and Galvin’s Bistro de Luxe in the intervening 15 years. more>>>
