St David’s Engineering Students win 2012 UK Young Engineer Award

Wasim Miah and Jessica Jones have been named UK young engineers of the year with a device to monitor foetal contractions. Students of St David's 's engineering scheme Wasim and Jessica devised a monitoring system to give an indication to would-be mothers as to when they are about to go into labour. more>>>

At just 18 years old, Luke Thomas, ex-Yale College student, has opened his own restaurant, Luke’s Dining Room, at the prestigious Sanctum on the Green Hotel owned by Mark Fuller in Berkshire, where he takes over from a two Michelin-starred chef. more>>>

Sweet Sara inspires students at Centerprise Launch

Entrepreneur Sara Flay told she may never work again because of a debilitating muscular neurological condition. But on she went to study for a Foundation Degree in Business Management at Neath Port Talbot College and then started her own business. She returned to the college to tell her story and inspire new entrepreneurs at the opening of ‘Centerprise’, a new student enterprise centre at Neath Port Talbot College. more>>>

Skills Competitions Wales

Part of the WorldSkills movement, Skills Wales competitions are being held in many trades and industries in the build-up to the world championships that take place every two years. Youngsters competing now could see themselves competing overseas for the UK at future WorldSkills finals.

Slow Food Wales ambassadors Gareth Johns, chef and proprietor of the Wynnstay Hotel in Machynlleth, and Lavinia Vaughan from Caersws deli Feast of Food, joined Coleg Powys students in the kitchen for a special learning experience. more>>>

Fashion Show with a Difference

Coleg Powys staff and students hosted and managed an amazingly eclectic fashion show from top to toe including both major high street fashion retailers and local retailers, and taking in children's wear to fancy dress and wedding outfits. They even managed to include a Barclays Money Skills Week “Style on a Budget” competition during the interval. more>>>

Coleg Gwent media students who worked with the BBC to broadcast the Welsh Open snooker tournament are now putting their experience into practice, organising and broadcasting Coleg Gwent’s first ‘open pool’ competition. more>>>
