Training for a place in the WorldSkills UK squad

Coleg Sir Gâr computing student, 16 year old Daniel Koehler has been selected to train for a place to represent the UK at the largest international skills competition being held in Germany next year. Following success in recent competitions including Skills Competition Wales, UK Skills Wales and the WorldSkills UK regional competition where he took gold. Now, following a selection process competition against students from England, he's another step nearer in the quest to compete in Germany. more>>>

Yale College Performing Arts Student for RADA

Yale College performing arts learner Joe Roberts, 18, from Coed-y-Glyn, Wrexham, has successfully auditioned for a place at RADA and will be appearing in the College’s own theatre performance this month “Spend, Spend, Spend”. more>>>

Bridgend College is delighted to announce that David Bassett, a Professional Catering Lecturer, has been awarded the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and ‘Tutor of the Year 2012’ at the NIACE Dysgu Cymru Inspire Learning Awards. more>>>

Second Victory for Deeside Decorators

Dale Thompson has won second place in the Dulux Young Apprentice of the Year Welsh Finals and is now waiting to find out if his efforts will get him into the UK Final competition. His success comes less than two weeks after he took second place in the North West final of the Johnstonnes Young Painter of the Year competition, which was won by team mate Kirilas Veitias. more>>>

Warner Bros Record Deal

Two former Coleg Gwent music students are making their names in the music business since completing their courses in 2009. Talented duo, Jon Lilygreen and Jon Maguire, have gained a record deal with Warner Bros Music, supported pop sensation Olly Murs on an arena tour and celebrated the release of their own debut single. more>>>

Shain Lewis, a second year student on the Foundation Degree in Creative Industries (Drama) at Merthyr Tydfil College was awarded Best Young Actor in the British Young Farmers Drama Club Finals. more>>>

Students’ appointment with European business

Public services students at Coleg Sir Gâr have returned from Zurich where they had a lesson in business from some of the largest companies in Switzerland. Coleg Sir Gâr was the only Welsh college to attend the JA/YE Europe Trade Fair, where the group of five students promoted their business, Gifts Made Easy, a customised gift service. As part of the enterprise-promoting event, students from 31 European countries were allocated a company to visit, including students from Coleg Sir Gâr. more>>>

Work Placements with Kaya Festival

Kaya Festival, a new music festival coming to the Vaynol Estate, Bangor, 1–3 June, is keen to leave a positive economic footprint and is working closely with Coleg Menai to provide significant work experience placements for students in Catering and Hospitality as well as Creative Arts. more>>>

‘Handmade by Students’ - an internet-based company selling art and design works is run by Neath Port Talbot College’s (NPTC) School of Creative, Visual & Performing Arts. Looking at an e-bay-type shop, the next step is to open it up to students from all art and design institutions across Wales. more>>>

Yale College hospitality and catering students, who have developed their own food supply business, are working with local stores to reduce food miles. more>>> 

Game and Wildlife: New Direction

In 2011 a new Apprenticeship in Game and Wildlife Management was introduced to the curriculum at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor's landbased campus, Glynllifon. Eighteen months later and four months ahead of schedule, 19 year old Alex Thomson Painter became the first Game and Wildlife student to graduate at Glynllifon and has already secured employment as an Underkeeper at the Bryn y Pys Estate, near Bangor on Dee. more>>>
