Yale College is the only further education college in Wales to have been recognised for the entrepreneurial manner in which it embeds enterprising activities across the College by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) on its Excellence Gateway. more>>>

Talented Welsh duo line up for international skills glory

Two talented Welsh trainees have been shortlisted to represent the UK in front of thousands of people at the world’s top skills competition.
Star plumbing apprentice Lee Cuthill, 21, from Yale College Wrexham and web design wizard from Coleg Sir Gâr, Daniel Koehler, 17, have impressed selectors enough to earn a call-up for the UK Squad to compete at the prestigious international WorldSkills event, in Leipzig Germany next year. more>>> 

Lucienne Day award for textiles student at New Designers

Coleg Sir Gar textiles graduate, Sian O’Doherty, has been presented with the Lucienne Day Award for her creative skills in textile design at the New Designers show in London. more>>>

Return to education earns national award

21 year-old Daniel Hassan, a student at Coleg Sir Gâr who returned to education as an adult having left school at 13, has been awarded NIACE Dysgu Cymru’s Young Adult Learner of the Year award. more>>>

Graduating Gower College Swansea student Rosie Sheehy has been swamped with offers from some of the UK’s leading performing arts institutions: RADA, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the London Contemporary Dance School. more>>>

Engineering the future of Wales

The best young welders in Wales went head-to-head recently in a bid to win the BOC Welsh Apprentice Welder 2012. At the end of a day of exacting practical tests, Neil Brace from MITEC Pembrokeshire College took the title at the national finals held at Gower College Swansea. more>>>

Coleg Gwent beauty therapy student has scooped a silver medal in the regional heats of a UK skills competition.
Lidija Vrcic put her talent to the test against top students in the regional heats of the Beauty Therapy WorldSkills UK competition. more>>>

Students Awarded

‘Apprentice of the Year’ at Llandrillo awards

This year’s ceremony included the first presentation of the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award with consortium partners: Coleg Llandrillo, ADT and North Wales Training. It was also the first ever framework achievement awards to be given to Marine Engineering Apprentices.
Whilst Coleg Meirion Dwyfor’s Glynllifon Campus has awarded engineering student Aiden Vaughan Thomas with the Student of the Year Award.

Also recognising top student achievement, presentations have taken place at: 
Ystrad Mynach College, Rhymney and 
Gower College Swansea

Students cater to Olympian appetites

A group of nine Hospitality & Catering students from Cardiff and Vale College will soon be heading off to London to help prepare food for guests at the Olympic Stadium for both the Olympics and Paralympics. more>>>

Artist Sean Olsen, ex-student of Gower College Swansea, who went on to graduate with a first class honours degree from Cardiff School of Art and Design, returned to the college to complete a commission for the Sport Centre at Tycoch, working alongside current students. more>>>

Author praises student design work

A young author from Nantgaredig has praised the work of Coleg Sir Gâr graphic design students for designing the cover of his ebook which has sold copies as far afield as America and Germany. more>>>

Football in Spain

Sports and Football Academy students from Coleg Powys have visited the largest stadium in Europe - the Nou Camp Stadium in Barcelona, and also played (and won) matches against teams from France and Spain during their visit. more>>>

Llysfasi Sheep Shearing Contest on TV

Shearers from across Wales have this week turned TV stars as the S4C Ffermio programme, which filmed at the Coleg Llysfasi Annual Sheep Shearing competition, aired across the nation. more>>>

A group of Coleg Llandrillo BA (Hons) Public and Social Policy students recently had the opportunity to see how the judicial system works up close. more>>>
