Money Week: looking after the pennies

Money Week, which takes place in January each year, provides an opportunity to improve students’ financial capability and understanding of personal finance.

Some of the activities that students have participated in as part of Money Week:

  • competitions and quizzes
  • visits/talks by banks and credit unions
  • exhibitions/displays by stakeholder organisations
  • sessions on:
  • budgeting
  • understanding Islamic banking
  • finance for university
  • interview clothes on a budget
  • healthy eating on a budget
  • retail price index (RPI)
  • fraud

Barclays Money Skills ‘weeks’ have been designed to give students an awareness of personal finance issues and to provide them with some tools to control their budget. Supported by ColegauCymru / CollegesWales and others, Barclays in partnership with the National Skills Academy for Financial Services have worked to deliver the learning week at 150 colleges throughout Britain. www.barclaysmoneyskills.com
