What: The first national teaching and learning conference for further education colleges in Wales, the conference aims to reinforce teaching and learning as the top priority in further education (FE) colleges in Wales.
Why: Estyn's latest annual report (2009/10) reports that no 'excellent' grades were awarded for teaching and learning in the previous year's cycle of inspections, and that across the last six-year inspection cycle only 21% of inspections had resulted in an 'excellent' grading for teaching.

Author of Teaching Today the UK’s best selling teacher training text, Geoff has a reputation for explaining learning and teaching issues in a down to earth, but lively and inspiring way. Geoff has worked as a consultant with over 200 colleges, and with various national educational agencies, mainly in England. Geoff contributes on learning and teaching issues at conferences all over the UK. He has worked as a physics teacher, a teacher trainer, and as a Learning Development Manager. Geoff’s book Evidence Based Teaching (2006) received critical acclaim from academia and from practicing teachers. His website www.geoffpetty.com is visited about 2,000 times a week.

- promote the use of differentiated teaching strategies that meet the needs of different learners
- identify participative teaching and learning methods that have proved effective in raising learner’s performance outcomes
- encourage supported experiments and community practice approaches
- share successful teaching practices and techniques across the FE colleges in Wales.
